There are times in this long life of mine when I find myself in a rut. How many times can one woman dust the heirlooms, pluck weeds in the garden, and wring her hands at her family’s antics? I’ll admit, though, my own little rants amuse even me. While I am so very unlike the average housewife, she and I do sound alike.
If the truth is to be told, I have not felt myself since the fated day of April 19, 2009. Fearing the loss of both Jasper and Rosalie to their own inner demons, I have yet to recover my own equilibrium. To complicate matters further, the Volturi arrived to issue an edict that establishes Washington State as Carlisle’s sole territory, to be occupied by our family, and by our family alone. The displacement of such sweet ladies as Eleanor Sparks and Scarlett Dane troubles me deeply.
And our family has grown. While I cannot say that the Volturi proclamation is the fault of Ethan Hayes, his arrival and subsequent decision to stay in Forks did shake up our own fragile family balance. He is a lovely fellow, with a compelling story; I’m afraid to say that I have treated him rather poorly. There is much to learn about this man, and how he will fit into our sometimes wild family dynamic. It’s been some time since we had a bachelor around the house.
What is to come of us, as we rant, as we study, as we work, as we travel, as our family expands? Only time will tell. I only know that it will work out.
Somehow.
